1.) MEANING BEHIND NAVRATRI:

NAVRATRI is a hindu festival dedicated to the nine goddess, it is celebrated in the autumn season with a wonderful time period of nine nights and ten ten days. 
It is celebrated every year for many reason and every year when it arrive the Indian people welcome it with great love and affection.
Many people may not be knowing that navratri is called sharadha navratri and is mainly celebrated for the divine goddess DEVI DURGA.

DIFFERENT NAMES:

  1. NAVRATRI.
  2. NAURATRI.
  3. NAVRATAM.
  4. NAURATNAM.

2.) HISTORY OF NAVRATRI:

Navratri is celebrated for the victory of goddess durga over the buffalo demon for the protection and restoration dharma in the eastern and northeast patrs of India.
Navratri in  the eastern and northeastern patrs  of India is some what familiar with dusshera wherein god rama's battle and victory over the devil Ravan is celebrated.
In the south navratri is mainly celebrated for the battle  of rama's goddess or saraswati.

If we see all the celebrations with one perspective the common thing in all is the victory of good over bad .

3.)WHAT TO DO IN NAVRATRI?

  1. in the morning preferably at 9.00 AM taking bath daily.
  2. Light Akhand Jyoti in front of the goddess throughout the nine days. It is considered auspicious and is said to bring happiness and provide success.It is preferred to light joyti by ghee.
  3. Then try to read the durga chalisa evry morning and evening.
  4.  Eat only Home Made Food (simple) and friuts, only once.
  5. Offer only homemade bhog or fod to god.
  6. Go to the temple or do puja to Maa daily in the morning and evening by lighting lamp and offering flower and doing arti.
  7. Do some good work (provide food,clothes etc)
  8. After bath always wear fresh cloth do not use the discarded cloth.
 Recite the mantras and slokas of Maa every available minute with you. 


4.)HOW TO PREPARE IN NAVRATRI?

For navratri while you are on fast you can help yourslf by some awesome recipies for navratri's fast .here we will help you with some delicious thing:

SABUDANA IS VERY RICH IN CARBOHYDRATES AND STARCH AND WILL PROVIDE YOU THE ENERGY REQUIRED FOR THE BODY DURING FASTING.

  • MATERIALS REQUIRED:
  1. sabudana(180 grams)
  2. peanuts (raw tablespoon-2)
  3. cumin seeds(1-2tablespoon)
  4. water(1 cup)
  5. oil (tablespoon )
  6. potato(diced 1 cup)
  7. green chili(1-2)
  8. cury leaves(6-7)
  9. sendha namak(1-2tablespoon)
  10. sugar(optional)1-2 tablespoon
  11. lemon juice 1/2
  12. coriander

  • RECIPE:


1- Rinse sabudana under water until water turns clear. This is important to get rid of all the starch.


2- Transfer the rinsed sabudana to a large bowl and add 1 cup water to it. No more.


3- In the morning the sabudana would have soaked up all the water. But you still drain it using a colander just to get rid of any excess water.


4- To check if sabudana is ready to cook, press a pearl between your thumb and index finger. It should smash easily. Keep it aside.5- Heat oil in a pan on medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for few seconds.


6- Then add the diced potatoes and cook for 3-4 minutes stirring often until potatoes are almost cooked. It’s important to dice the potatoes small here so that cook quickly.


7- Add the raw peanuts and for another 2-3 minutes.


8- Then add the green, curry leaves and cook for 1 more minute.9- Add the drained sabudana to the pan along with salt and sugar.


10- Mix well until well combined.


11- Cook for few minutes until most of the sabudana pearls becomes clear, stirring once or twice. Do not cook it for a long time  or else it will stick. Remove pan from heat. Add lemon juice and cilantro and toss to combine.


12- Serve sabudana khichdi hot with chilled yogurt.

  • VRAT ALOO

1)MATERIALS REQUIRED:

  • POTATOES(3)
  • CHOPPED TOMATOES(1 CUP)
  • GREEN CHILI(1-2)
  • AJWAIN(HALF TABLESPOON)
  • JEERA (HALF TABLESPOON0
  • WATER(1-2 TABLESPOON)
  • OIL (TABLESPOON)
  • SENDHA NAMAK( AS REQUIRED)

  • RECIPE:

Boil potatoes:

  • Rinse the potatoes, add the potatoes with 3 cups water in the pressure cooker.
  • Sprinkle teaspoon of sendha namak.
  • Boil the 3 potatoes in the pressure cooker for 4-5 whistles, till the potatoes cook and soften.
  • Peel and keep them aside.

making vrat aloo recipe:

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan.
  • Crackle the 1/2 teaspoon of carom seeds first.
  • Now add the 1-2 chopped green chilies .
  • Saute for half a minute.
  • Add a cup of chopped tomatoes and saute.
  • Stir and saute till the oil starts to leave the sides of the mixture.
  • The tomatoes would have cooked by now and become soft.
  • Continue to stir in between when cooking the tomatoes a couple of times.
  • Directly crumble the 3 boiled potatoes in the tomato gravy. Stir and mix well.
  • Add 2 cups of water, stir well. sprinkle sendha namak as required.
  • Simmer till the gravy thickens a bit.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve vrat wale aloo hot. The gravy will thicken as it cools down.These vrat wale aloo goes well with puri or rotis made from kuttu ka atta (buckwheat flour) or singhare ka atta (water chestnut flour).


MATERIALS REQUIRED:

  1. 1 Cup Lotus Seeds (puffed) and cashew nut (toasted)
  1. 1/2 Litre Milk
  1. 2 Tbsp Pure ghee
  1. 3 Tbsp Khoya/Mawa
  1. 1/4 tsp Green cardamom powder
  1. 1 Tbsp Almonds, chopped
  1. 1 Tbsp Pistachios, chopped

  • RECIPE:
  • 1.

  • Heat ghee in a non-stick pan. Pour the milk into a deep non-stick pan and let it come to a boil. Add the makhane and cashew nuts to the first pan and sauté lightly.
  • 2.
  • Take it off the heat. Add khoya and powdered sugar to the milk and let it boil on low heat. Add the makhane and mix lightly. Add green cardamom powder, almonds and pistachios.
  • 3.
  • Mix well and take it off the heat. Let it cool to room temperature and then keep in the refrigerator to chill.
  • 4.
  • Serve chilled.
